Notably, the boat has a prestigious Congressional Cup pedigree when sailed by:
- Scott Allen in 1967
- Skip Allen in 1968
- Dick Deaver in 1976
- Ted Turner in 1977
Recent milestones include finishing 2nd in class in the 2004 Ensenada race and competing in the 2005 Transpac (finishing 8th out of 14 starting Cal 40s).
Cruising History, Maintenance & Rigging Specifications
Cruising History: Mostly local sailing between Santa Barbara and San Diego.
Major Refits & Modifications: In 1983, the boat was stripped of exterior hardware, teak trim, portholes, and mast, then trucked to Dennis Choat’s (Dencho) shipyard in Long Beach. The factory non-skid was ground off, boot-stripe redrawn straight-and-level, topsides faired and painted with Awlgrip, and stock non-skid re-applied (re-Awlgrip'd twice since).
Rigging & Deck Gear:
- Mast: Replaced following 1969 dismasting; replaced again in 2000 with a modern section (SeaTek), luff-groove, internal tangs, internal spreader-roots, and three-halyard masthead.
- Standing Rigging: All rod rigging. Forward lowers removed and tangs eliminated.
- Boom & Vang: Sparcraft boom added in 1985; solid Hall-Spars vang.
- Rudder: Upgraded with the modern Carl Schumacher rudder.
- Deck Layout: Andersen 52 self-tailing primary winches moved forward; Andersen 40s for spinnaker sheets; Lewmar 40 mainsheet winch. Custom solid teak tiller, custom stainless ladder with teak treads, and Go-Marine/Lewmar portlights.
Systems & Tankage: Powered by a Universal 35B Diesel (35 HP) with a Max-Prop feathering propeller. Tankage includes a 35-gallon aluminum fuel tank in the bilge, dual 16-gallon stainless water tanks, and a 20-gallon stainless holding tank.
